Unfairly Targeted

I am
A little if not a lot confused
on whether we should be called mentally defective
if once abused.
When the reason for our shyness arises from the fact
that if we weren’t quiet at home we’d get a smack.
And the reason for the swaying or the jumping
and the screaming-
conditioned responses to the nightmares
while the rest of you were sweetly dreaming.
